MY STORY
I was born in Almería, Spain, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, where the beauty of nature became my earliest inspiration. Growing up in a family of artists, particularly under the influence of my grandfather, I discovered my passion for self-expression through art at a young age. While my father nurtured my mathematical talents, it was the canvas that truly allowed me to convey my innermost thoughts and emotions.
Upon turning 18, I ventured to Madrid to pursue studies in Telecommunication Engineering, driven by a thirst for knowledge and a fascination with understanding the intricacies of signal processing that can be applied to the study of the human mind. My journey led me to specialize in Biomedical Engineering, with a focus on Neuroscience, culminating in a PhD earned through dedication and exploration between Madrid and the Netherlands.
In 2018, I embarked on a new chapter in Los Angeles as a postdoctoral researcher at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, delving deeper into the complexities of brain function. Despite the demands of my academic pursuits, my passion for painting remained steadfast. As an autodidact, I continuously honed my craft, experimenting with new techniques and styles.
Last year marked a significant milestone as I joined the esteemed Lola del Fresno School, where I found not only mentorship but also boundless inspiration. Today, as I navigate the intersection of science and art, I remain committed to pushing boundaries, exploring new horizons, and embracing the endless possibilities of creativity and discovery.
ART STATEMENT
As a Spanish neuroscientist and artist rooted in LA, my work delves into the intricacies of human emotion, mental health, race, equity, and women's empowerment. Through oil, acrylics, watercolors, and digital media. I craft pieces that serve as conduits for exploring the depths of our psyche and societal constructs. With each stroke and animation, I seek to unravel the complexities of the human experience, inviting viewers to introspect and engage with themes that resonate universally. My art is a fusion of scientific inquiry and creative expression, bridging the realms of cognition and emotion. It is an exploration of the human condition, a testament to resilience, vulnerability, and the power of self-discovery. Through my creations, I aspire to spark conversations, evoke empathy, and inspire action towards a more compassionate and understanding world.
